The first-ever Blue Santa Bangladesh 2026 was successfully held today at Surjomukhi Lake, Sector 18, Uttara, Dhaka, marking an important milestone in Bangladesh’s growing environmental movement.
Organized by One Bag Trash, the volunteer-driven programme brought together approximately 50 volunteers, including children, teenagers, young adults, and local community members. The event began at 2:30 PM with a shared commitment to creating a cleaner and healthier environment.
During the cleanup campaign, volunteers collected approximately 500 kilograms of plastic waste and other litter from the lake and its surrounding areas. Beyond the cleanup effort, volunteers also engaged with local residents, raising awareness about plastic pollution, responsible waste disposal, and the importance of protecting public spaces.
Blue Santa is a global environmental initiative that encourages communities to protect rivers, lakes, oceans, and public spaces while inspiring people to give the greatest gift to future generations—a cleaner planet.
The programme welcomed participants of all ages. Children, youth, and local residents worked side by side, demonstrating that environmental protection is a shared responsibility.
Six years old Monisha (volunteer) shared:
“I really enjoyed cleaning the lake today. I hope our country becomes cleaner and more beautiful, and I encourage everyone to take care of our environment.”
Volunteer Jaisha said:
“Protecting our planet is everyone’s responsibility. If we work together to reduce plastic pollution, we can solve many environmental problems and leave a cleaner world for future generations.”
Habibul Bashar, General Secretary of One Bag Trash and one of the event organizers, stated:
“Keeping our country clean is the responsibility of every citizen. If we want to protect our rivers, lakes, and environment, we must act now. We hope this movement will reach every community across Bangladesh.”
